It is

States. The federal government and many states are actively
prosecuting employers who have knowingly hired and employ

E-VERIFY
The
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Social Security
Administration (SSA) have created a program designed to
provide assurance to you that your employees are using a
valid social security number that matches their name, and
that their immigration status allows them to legally work in
the United States. This program is called E-VERIFY
(previously called BASIC PILOT PROGRAM).
Many
states have taken additional steps to require employers to
confirm the employment eligibility of their workers through
the E-VERIFY program. For example:

Beginning January 1, 2008, Arizona requires that all
employers confirm employment eligibility of their
new-hires through the E-VERIFY program.

Colorado requires that employers doing business with
state and local governments participate in the
E-VERIFY program.

Other
states, such as Oklahoma and Idaho have E-VERIFY
requirements.
